September 17, 2024
Chika Russell is an international entrepreneur, mentor, and speaker. A qualified management accountant, she spent 10 years in banking before launching her snacks business, CHIKA’S FOODS. Since its inception, CHIKA’S FOODS has grown rapidly, and Chika has now embarked on her most ambitious project to date: making CHIKA’S Africa the largest independent snack company in West Africa by 2027.

Launched in 2015 in the U.K the CHIKA’S range of Africa-inspired snacks immediately resonated with retailers such as Waitrose, Co-Op, Holland & Barrett, and Ocado, establishing CHIKA’S as a leader in the market. Under Chika's leadership, the business has secured national listings and several thousand retail stockists both in the UK and internationally.

"Remember, your vision is worth fighting for, and perseverance often leads to the sweetest victories!"

You spent a decade in banking before making the switch to business. What let you know it was time to step out on your own?

After a decade in banking, I realized that while the financial sector was a great training ground, my true passion lay in creating something that connected with people on a more personal level. The turning point came when I started dreaming of a business that could bring something unique and meaningful to the table—literally and figuratively! The idea of launching CHIKA’S FOODS wasn’t just about making snacks; it was about sharing a piece of Africa with the world, and that vision sparked a fire in me that the structured world of banking couldn’t match. So, I decided to take the leap and blend my financial acumen with my entrepreneurial spirit. And let’s just say, it’s been one delicious ride ever since!
